   1964年的世博会在纽约举行，由迪斯尼公司操办其中的 “世界儿童馆”。世博会于1966年闭幕后，“世界儿童馆” 就成了迪斯尼乐园的娱乐场馆。沃特·迪斯尼请谢尔曼兄弟为迪斯尼乐园写一首园歌，提了两个要求：其一，希望歌曲像旋转木马那样，可以永无结束地轮回反复地唱；其二，歌词内容应该是关于和平和友谊，可以很容易被翻译成世界各国文字的。谢尔曼兄弟很快就完成了这项任务，歌曲取名为《这是一个小世界》。沃特·迪斯尼就用它来作为乐园娱乐场馆的名称。这首歌现在不仅在世界各地的迪斯尼乐园日夜播放，而且被翻译成各种语言成为世界儿童共同的儿歌。
    罗伯特·谢尔曼（1925-1012）和理恰德·谢尔曼（1928）是美国著名的歌曲作家，作品大多为动画片音乐和音乐剧，如《欢乐满人间》《水晶鞋和玫瑰花》等。
